Leading Spanish sales agent Filmax has picked up global rights to the local comedy “Hotel Bitcoin,” which will get its market premiere screening at the American Film Market in November.
The “Hotel Bitcoin” synopsis reads: “‘Hotel Bitcoin’ is the story of four friends, 4,000 bitcoins and one laptop. In order to protect their dough, they’ll have to deal with parties, loansharks, love, crime and a whole lot of crazy. If they can just hold out in a hotel until Monday, they’ll be on top of the world.”
Produced by Ídolo Films, La Canica Films and Golpe de Cripto, the feature stars several Spanish and beyond comedy regulars including Marta Hazas (“My Fault”), Mauricio Ochmann (“Friends Till Death”), Pablo Chiapella (“The Night my Dad Saved Christmas”) and Alejo Sauras (“Estoy Vivo”).
“In these challenging times we’re living through, we believe that what the world needs most is comedy and we’re sure that ‘Hotel Bitcoin’ will allow audiences to leave their problems outside the movie theatre for an hour and a half,” said producers Producers Bea Bodegas and Paloma Tejero.
“This film is an ode to friendship. An outlandish thriller that takes the viewer on a wild and crazy ride where boredom is not an option. We wanted to make a movie that was just pure entertainment. The joy of making people laugh is the motivation for so many of us who work in this industry, and we’re sure that this film will bring some of that same joy to audiences around the world.”
“This crazy, screwball comedy is one that we believe will travel very well internationally,” said Ivan Diaz, head of international at Filmax. The context of the film couldn’t be any more up-to-date and the hilarious way in which it parodies the world of cryptocurrencies is sure to go down well with audiences the world over. The film boasts a great cast, including Mauricio Ochmann, who is currently one of the most popular actors in Latin America. Parties, love, crime and a good dose of madness … entertainment guaranteed.”
Although “Hotel Bitcoin” won’t get its market premiere until November, Filmax will make it available to interested buyers immediately.
