Inside the enigmatic filmmaker Luis Buñuel’s head there is a film. It's the film he could have made about his University years; his relationship with Dali and Lorca and their search for the mythical King Solomon’s table in 1930s Toledo. A table that was said to have the power to see into the past and the future. Their search sees them embark on a hilariously absurd journey, accompanied by plenty of references to the history of cinema.
As Buñuel pictures this film, we realize this is not a biopic but an adventure. What hides behind King Solomon's Table? Why is it hidden in Toledo? Carlos Saura, in wanting to pay tribute to his friend and fellow countryman, the renowned Aragon filmmaker Luis Buñuel, has given him the best gift a director can offer: his own work, a fictional film in which Buñuel plays the starring role.
